Cope Foundation’s August Golf Classic to raise much-needed funds for respite services
A 21-year partnership for the event with Cope and sponsor O’Flynn Exhams has raised over €1.6million to date
Cope Foundation is inviting teams to enter their annual O’Flynn Exhams Golf Classic to raise much-needed funds for short breaks services for those with intellectual disabilities and/or autism and their families. This is the 21st year of the Golf Classic, a long-standing partnership between Cope Foundation and the event’s main sponsor O’Flynn Exhams Solicitors that has raised over €1.6 million to date.
This year’s tournament takes place at Cork Golf Club on August 21st and 22nd. Money raised from the event has made a significant contribution towards the provision of essential services which are not covered by the State.
Cope Foundation Chief Executive, Sean Abbott commented: “Cope Foundation is marking 60 years this year, and one of the main reasons we have been able to achieve so much over that time is the generosity and hard work of our fundraisers, sponsors and donors. The Golf Classic has generated an amazing €1.6 million since its inception and this year those funds will be used to bridge the funding gap in our short breaks (respite) services.
“The short breaks service provides fantastic opportunities for a person supported to socialise with new people, and engage in fun and new experiences, while also allowing care-givers much-needed ‘time out’ from their care-giving role. The current supply of these services available is not meeting the ever-increasing demand. As a result, this is having a negative effect on families and their loved ones’ wellbeing, with numerous families not receiving a service or receiving a very limited service.”
Speaking on their 21 year association with the Golf Classic, Micheál Ó Mulláin, Partner, from O’Flynn Exhams said:
“All of us at O’Flynn Exhams are very proud to have supported the Golf Classic for over 20 years. Cope Foundation provide a vital service to the people in Cork city and county and it is our hope that this year’s event raises much-needed funds for the organisation.

There will be three tee-off times at Cork Golf Club; Monday 21st August at 2.30pm and Tuesday 22nd August at 9.30am and 2.30pm. The cost of a team of four people is €1,000 and all funds raised will go directly to Cope

Cope Foundation supports 2,350 children and adults with intellectual disabilities and/or autism in 65 different locations across Cork city and county.
O’Flynn Exhams is the largest city-centre law firm in Cork, and employs 45 people at its South Mall office.
