The Ireland Chapter of Project Management Institute (PMI) has announced the winners of the inaugural National Project Awards, sponsored by PwC.

Derek Tierney of the Department of Finance won Project Professional of the Year at a gala dinner hosted by principal sponsor PwC. Pramerica scooped Project Management Office of the Year and the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland won Private Sector Project of the Year for their National Training Programme for Emergency Medicine.

SME Project of the Year 2017 went to Sonalake for Automation of Fibre to the Premises for enet; and Three Ireland won Project Management for Social Good for its charity partner e-mentoring system. Terence O’Donnell won Distinguished Contribution to Project Management for his career achievements working in the project management education and consulting arenas; and Ervia won Public Sector Project of the Year for its Limerick Gasworks Site Remediation Project.

The National Project Awards recognise and honour individuals, project teams and organisations that have excelled within the project management discipline. The event at Spencer Dock, Dublin 1, compered by Anton Savage, has taken place on the eve of International Project Management Day 2017 (November 2).

Speaking at the announcement of the winners, President, Ireland Chapter of PMI, Niall Murphy said: “The National Project Awards celebrate the very best of project management across the country. The calibre of entries for our inaugural awards was excellent and reinforces the extraordinary talent there is within the industry.

“Our judging panel identified the people and teams who are driving best practice in project management. The winners, along with the entrants and finalists, are to be commended for their invaluable work in the management and delivery of innovative projects across the country. Membership of the Ireland Chapter of PMI has grown by 26% in the past 12 months, to over 1,300 members. There are currently over 50,000 employed in project management across Ireland, in sectors such as IT, public sector, construction, pharmaceuticals, professional services, financial services and manufacturing.
