Become a Champion for the children attending Cork University Hospital by participating in a White Collar Boxing event to raise much-needed money for sick children.

CUH Charity, in association with Highfield RFC in Cork, has launched a ‘Champions for Children’ ultimate White Collar Boxing event which will take place on the 13th of September.

While Friday the 13th might be an unlucky day for some, participants and spectators alike are guaranteed a knock-out, action-packed night of excitement and entertainment during fight-night which will be held in the heart of Cork’s social scene – Reardens of Washington Street.

Males and females are being sought for the event which offers members of the public the unique opportunity to work with White Collar Boxing trainers over a six-week period , starting in July, before they step into the ring to battle it out over three rounds of boxing.

According to Marie Watson, Children’s Unit nurse, the recruitment is already going well with many people eager to sign up for the challenge will be as rewarding as it will be exciting.

“We already have 20 people signed up and we need more than 30 so we are doing well. We hope that people from all walks of life will get involved to support and raise money with the end goal of improving the care and facilities for sick children in CUH.”

Gethin Lewis of Highfield RFC said “The hospital is our closest neighbour so the CUH Charity is not just a cause close to our hearts but it’s close in proximity too. We’ve already got an overwhelming amount of support from our members and from the public so we are looking forward to the training sessions and of course the big fight night on September 13.”

The main event will consist of 15 fights with each contender paired up with an opponent of equal strength and agility.

Participants over 18 years of age with a general level of fitness are welcome to sign up for the challenge.

Spectators who purchase tickets for €20 will not only enjoy a night of nail-biting action and good humoured rivalry but there will also be food, a drinks promotion and entertainment on the night as well as free entry to Havana Browns.
