Cork University Hospital officially launch Wheel4Life 2016 with Bishopstown GAA
CUH Charity has launched the second Wheel4Life Charity Cycle with the help of Munster Rugby Captain, Peter O’Mahony and Senior Hurler, Shane O’Neill. Funds raised from the 2016 cycle will support the refurbishment of the Chemotherapy Day Unit in Cork University Hospital (CUH). Supported by Bishopstown GAA, the cycle will take place on Sunday 28th August from the Bishopstown GAA Club.
Over €5,000 was raised during last year’s inaugural cycle, with funds going to much needed cancer services and patient care at CUH.
This year’s cycle will feature three routes. The 40km and 100km routes will start and finish in Bishopstown, while there is also a new 8km family route, which participants can choose to walk, run or cycle. All participants at the event will be treated to a barbecue and family entertainment on return.
The 40km route travels as far as Innishannon and back, while the 100km route will go to the beautiful and scenic Old Head of Kinsale and return to Bishopstown. The day will also feature a family fun day.
Speaking about the event, CUH Charity Fundraising Manager, Miriam Forde said: “This event last year created funds for vital hospital equipment. We are delighted to announce the expansion of this year’s Wheel4Life event with our new family-friendly 8km route. We are inviting everyone, young and old to get involved in the challenge and join us on the day for some extra special fun.”
“I would like to thank The Edge Sports for once again sponsoring this year’s event. Without their support, the cycle would not be possible,” added Ms Forde.
Chairperson of the Bishopstown GAA Cycling Committee, Roy Galvin said: “We are delighted to work with CUH Charity on our joint Wheel4Life event this year. We are calling on all Bishopstown GAA members, their family and friends, local businesses and the Cork community to come and join us for what will be a fantastic and enjoyable family fun day. With a new route this year, we have something for everyone!”
The registration fee is €20 for the 100km and 40km cycle. There is no registration fee for the 8km route. Instead, all donations are welcome in lieu of a fee on the day. Bike rental is also available through Wheel4Life sponsor, The Edge Sports shops in Cork.
