Grow your Twitter followers in 5 easy steps
Twitter is a social media platform that allows you to communicate in 140 characters. It is a fantastic platform to share your message with a broad and varied audience, but with 313 million active monthly users, what can help you to stand out from the crowd and grow your Twitter followers?
The key to growing your followers is to provide quality content and encourage as much sharing as possible to reach a broader audience.
Here are our top five essential actions to help you grow your Twitter followers.
Tweet often
On average, you will be seen by your audience for up to 30 seconds after you post, before your tweet disappears into the depths of their news feed. If this isn’t an incentive to tweet more, we don’t know what is! Without frequent content, your audience will have no reason to follow you, so make sure you post something every day.
Springboard’s top tip:
Post links to your latest blogs, links to recent news items or simply retweet for a fast and efficient way to appear ‘active’.
Direct people to your Twitter account
You may already have a popular social media account on Snapchat, Instagram or Facebook. All these followers may also be on Twitter. Make sure you let them know how to find you by sharing your Twitter handle across these platforms.
Tag people in your Twitter posts
Tagging is a surefire way to ensure that people see your post. We’re not advising that you tag the Kardashians in every post, but make sure you tag the relevant persons. For example, if you are sharing an article you found, tag the journalist or magazine. There is a chance that they might retweet your post, sending it out to a wider audience.
Springboard’s top tip:
Twitter does not include images in its character limit. If you run out of space, you can tag more people in the image than in the post, although there is a lower chance of them retweeting your post.
Use calls to action
‘If you don’t ask, you don’t get’ as they say! Make sure to use clear calls to action in your posts and let your audience know what you want them to do. Use #RT to ask them to retweet to their followers or direct them to quality content that they may like to share, such as ‘Read my blog here:’ or ‘Share my new blog on . . “.
Popular hashtags
At Springboard, we provide our clients with the relevant hashtags they need for their posts. Compile a list of hashtags relevant to your industry or your blogs and use these in rotation where relevant. Make sure to seek the hashtag for any event that you attend, or conversation that you follow on Twitter. Use it in your posts, as audiences often filter by hashtag.
Springboard’s top tip:
Type your keyword into the Twitter search tool. Posts will appear from people who have used this hashtag. Scan through these posts to see what other hashtags they also used for some new ideas.
With these top tips, you can kick-start your Twitter profile and engagement. The more engaged you are, the faster you can grow your Twitter followers. Good luck!
