West Cork artists come together for ‘Two Views’ art exhibition
Two artists from Sherkin Island, West Cork, along the Wild Atlantic Way, will hold a joint exhibition of paintings at the Community Hall on Sherkin Island from Saturday 9th August until Saturday 22nd August.
‘Two Views’, opening at 2:30pm on 9th August, is a collaborative show between artists, Jo Ashby and Majella O’Neill Collins, both of whom paint seascapes from their Sherkin Island studios, each enjoying different views of the sea.
The two friends have long planned a series of shows together and both are involved in art education. The exhibition will go to the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists (RBSA) in Birmingham in June 2016, before returning to West Cork the following summer.
Jo Ashby, who is an associate of the RBSA, said:” “Our approach to painting the sea may seem very different but there are complementary aspects that make our work hang well together, immersing the viewer in our joint affinity and connection with the sea.”
Majella O’Neill Collins, facilitator on the BA in Visual Art Degree Programme on Sherkin Island, said: ”We view this joint exhibition as an exciting opportunity to share the ever-changing seascapes of Roaring Water Bay with a wider audience.”
‘Two Views’ follows the successful Creative Diversity exhibition held recently on the island and is another example of the creative energy on Sherkin Island where several artists are opening their studios to the public this summer.
