University College Cork
THE BRIEF
In 2015, University College Cork launched a new Centre for the Study of Moral Foundations of Economy and Society as part of their Department of Sociology, in partnership with Waterford Institute of Technology (WIT). Springboard’s role was to:
- Support the launch event
- Implement a comprehensive media relations campaign to secure national coverage both in print and broadcast
THE EXECUTION
Springboard worked with UCC to identify a multitude of media opportunities that would engage a national audience. A variety of outreach strategies were employed to ensure maximum media coverage was achieved. President of Ireland Michael D Higgins was secured to launch the centre, with Springboard coordinating photography, videography and advertising collateral around the event too.
This included:
- A media announcement, with quotes from President Higgins
- Strategic PR outreach to key media and industry publications
- Content creation, including photography, blogging and videography
While working on this project, due to unforeseen circumstance on the grounds of UCC, the event had to be relocated at very short notice. The launch was moved to the Royal Irish Academy in Dublin, with Springboard working with all stakeholders to facilitate this move and the success of the event.
THE RESULTS
A key deliverable for this project was to secure national coverage for the Centre’s strategy and the launch of same. Springboard secured extensive offline and online national and regional coverage for the launch which included a half page opinion piece for the lead professor in the Irish Times, a feature in the Irish Examiner and an extensive interview on Newstalk.
